What is Landshare?
With allotment waiting lists massively
over-subscribed and people right across
the country keener than ever to grow
their own fruit and veg, the aim for
Landshare is to become a UK wide
initiative to make British land more
productive and fresh local produce more
accessible to all. But all of this
depends on people like you registering
their interest now. |
Use landshare to:
Find land where you can grow your own
Offer land in return for produce
Identify land suitable for planting
Build a growing community
Why get involved? |

In June last year I
had the pleasure of meeting Hugh
Atkinson and his family who were
visiting England from Newfoundland in
Canada. I have been in touch with Hugh
via email for many years so finally
meeting him in real life was wonderful.
Hughs paternal grandmother, Elsa
Florella Clough Snowden was the daughter
of Rev Samuel Snowden who was born in
Keighley and buried in Utley Cemetery,
Keighley. Who in turn was the son of
Emmott Snowden born Cowling in 1828.
Hugh has over the years has spent many
hours tracing the Snowden Family History
and has now kindly made his research
available via it's own website.
In Hughs own words:- The purpose of
this site is to encourage and enable
research into the Snowden's of the
Cowling area including the family of
Viscount Philip Snowden. |

As many people know
we closed the website in early August.
We would like to thank all the people
who contacted us showing their support
for the site and expressing their
sadness that it was no longer available.
The reason for removing the site was
mainly due to the negativity and apathy
that at times seems to totally surround
the village. Negativity breeds nothing
but more negativity. Sometimes people
take things for granted or complain
about things without even knowing the
work that is involved. If people would
only get more involved in village life
instead of complaining about it maybe
there really would be less reason for
complaining in the first place and the
village would be a better place.
Cowling Web is a free website dedicated
to Cowling Village, it's inhabitants,
history and the surrounding area known
as Cowling Parish. Nothing has changed
on that point, the website is still
totally free so the village is really
getting something for nothing, but there
is a catch! We do hope to keep the site
as up to date and as interesting as
possible but that is where people like
you can help us by letting us know what
is going on in the village. If you are
part of one of the many local groups or
committees please let us know when you
are holding meetings or events.
Photographs both old and new have always
been a popular part of the website so we
are hoping that if you take any nice
photos in the village or find any old
ones that you might pass them onto us to
put in the galleries. Your thoughts and
opinions are also very important and we
are always happy to listen to what
people are saying so if you would like
to help by contributing to the site
please feel free to get in touch with
your ideas.
So
what is new ?
The design is the main change. The whole
site has been re-built from the ground
up making it easier to update but more
importantly faster and hopefully simpler
for the visitor to use.
We have also made the website wider, the
old site was 800 pixels wide and now it
is 1000 pixels.
With making the site wider we have also
added a larger top banner. The one you
see at the moment was originally a test
image but the people who have been
testing the site for us prior to it
going live commented on it so much we
decided to run with it for a while. As
with the old design we hope to change
the banner monthly so if you would like
to see one of your photos used as a
banner please >
Get In Touch <
The old photo gallery has had a little
tweaking and now has "< Previous Image +
Next Image >" making flicking through
the photos easier and hopefully more
enjoyable.
We are also now offering businesses &
tradesmen from outside the village the
opportunity to add their details to the
business listings and also advertise on
the site. >
Click here for more details <
Most of the old content has been copied
over from the old design with a few
things moved to the Local History &
Information section. If you find
something we have missed please feel
free to get in touch and point it out.
We hope you enjoying using the site and
hope you will get involved with helping
us build the site making it even more
enjoyable for all. |
