More Rubbish! And more free money!
Cowling residents do not appear to be universally in favour of fortnightly rubbish collections, and as one person calculated, the proud parents of twins in nappies had better not forget any collections, for if they do then somewhere around 320 nappies will be waiting for the next!
Bradford in the 1950’s was still a huge provider of textiles to the world, and a ‘mordant’ was needed in dyeing those textiles. A mordant is a substance used to set dyes on fabrics or tissue sections by forming a coordination complex with the dye which then attaches to the fabric.
One enterprising person set about collecting this mordant from the householders of Bradford, and paying them for it; it’s a common substance, which people kept in tubs in their houses, and the collector went by the jovial name of ‘Piss-Tub Willie.’
Who knows? Perhaps some other enterprising person might find a use for these nappies? Should we offer a prize for the best name for the collector?
My guess would be ‘Winnie.’*
The Cowling Parish Council meeting on the 2nd November will also see the presence of a representative from Craven District Council, to explain this move away from weekly collections. District Councillor Green, who voted in favour of this change and against a trial period, has a permanent invitation to Parish Council meetings, and it is hoped that he too will be in attendance.

North Yorkshire County Council has a ‘Nappy Incentive Scheme’ which offers £30.00 free to parents who’d like to change to ‘real’ nappies!
