“My son would like to know why some of the play equipment has been removed from the Collinge road green. Apparently The word on the 10 year olds grapevine is “that some old blokes came and stole the tyre swing and monkey bars”!!”

“10 year old grapevine! I know all about that... I have a 9 and 11 year old and as a rule you get the full story in very simple wording. It might be worth contacting the Parish Council and asking them what plans are under foot.

“Ha-ha - need to check, but think it will be that this equipment has not passed the insurance inspections.”

“Members of the parish council had an inspection of all the play equipment in december 2008, following a ROSPA inspection a few months before. The ROSPA report recommended removal of the aforementioned frame and when we had a look we agreed with them. All we needed to do was push the uprights and they moved easily, it was easy to see that the wood was rotten at ground level on several timbers. They were removed shortly afterwards by myself and another parish council member, The rotten timbers only needed a spade to break them, that is how bad they were.
And we certainly object to being described as " some old blokes".
Chris”

“Sorry Chris, but to a 10 year old, anyone over 25 is considered old, don't take it personally.

And if it was unsafe, fair enough

Is there any plans for a replacement, he is sure to ask.”

“If you object to that Chris you really should feel for me when my 11 year old has to do things for me on the laptop due to me been "So yesterday" due to still wanting to plug a mouse into it!

And you Parish Cllrs are all old blokes in the eyes of all 10 year olds!

Come to think of it... You all do not look so young in the eyes of me !! And I am 40 !!!

So when is new play items going to be installed to replace to old that you old blokes have stolen?”

“Chris gave the totally correct response, except for mentioning that I was the other 'old bloke.' :-)
And thank you for trying to spare my feelings Chris!
Ian, there are no plans for a replacement as yet, but here's an idea...
We have two vacancies n the council, now if you were to fill one of those, and perhaps suggest that we had a working group for childrens' play areas, then I rather think that the parish council might bite your hand off!
And a request for funding such items would possibly be looked on kindly too!
I do not want you to feel that you're being pressured, far from it! But please tell me how we can work on your youngster so that we can tell him how you are helping to replace the equipment:-)
The PC meeting is on the first Monday of each month, if you'd like to join us then please e-mail the clerk, all details on the parish website:

All the best,

Alan”
