“As I write this the speed of my internet is like that of dying royalty - "sinking fast". Trying to navigate round this site or any other means that after I click a link, I've time for a three course meal, a visit to the dentist, writing a short novella, and totally repainting my house before said link eventually works. I've almost time to get a smile from Mr Bains, but it's not that bad. Yet.

Anyone else having computer constipation problems?”

“Yes, we have had problems too. The service out here seems to be getting worse. I work for a router manufacturer and was using one of our routers and the connection suddenly started dropping about a month ago. It looks like a maybe a cable has degraded or been damaged a little or maybe there's a faulty piece of equipment in the exchange (the router keeps loosing synch to the DSLAM). I changed my router to a different brand (BT) that I have spare for testing and it works fine. Different ADSL routers have different chipsets and some work better than others on degraded phone lines than others. If you change your router it may start working correctly again.
Really it needs reporting to the ISP who will investigate it and escalate it to BT if required. But seeing as its not too much of an issue for me, I haven't done anything about reporting it to TalkTalk. It really needs reporting if you can stand the pain of dealing with your ISPs contact centre.

Ben

“Hi Greywolf & Sam,
I took the plunge and called Tiscali's contact centre in Mumbai or where ever it is and started on the rock road of trying to get past 1st line support and speak to someone that can actually do something. I explained the problem and reminded the agent that my router has been working for 6 months but the service has been getting slower, until now where the connection drops. We had a bit of a tech chat and she suggested that she could downgrade our line from ADSL Max to a 1Mb service. In theory, this should allow for more niose on the line and improve the service. 1Mb is fine seeing as we are so far from the exchange, cant expect much more than that anyway :(
She went to regrade our account and I was told that the option wasnt there in her web based application. So after 30 mins on the phone, the problem still exists. I have been unable to get through to UK support today so have raised a ticket online instead.
I'll let you know the outcome when I hear anything.”

“from switching on the computer to getting it going properly can take up to 10 minutes, and watching you tube is annoying as it stops every few seconds. we are with tiscali and the service was excellent until recently but has got worse rapidly.”
