“I am researching my ancestrors and belief my that my great great great grandfather, John Longbottom (1771-1844) who was married to Sarah Cowling (1775-1824) was the landlord of the Thanet Arms in Silsden in 1822 (according to Baines Directory for Silsden). An old map of 1853 shows the Thanet Arms just south of the Leeds-Liverpool Canal and north of Hainsworth House on the Hainsworth Road. There does not seem a pub in that area today. Does anybody have any information on the Thanet Arms. I beleive it was given this name because it was build on land owned by the Earl on Thanet.
