“House Calls - Please don’t be alarmed!
During May and June councillors will be calling at residents’ houses, along with a local police constable. This is simply to let you know that councillors and constables exist, how we can be contacted, and to see if you have any concerns which can be dealt with.
We won’t be able to call at everyone’s house, but it’s a start!

“Has anyone had a house call yet?”

“No and think it's a waste of resources and Don't want a call. Most people Know what apoliceman looks like and boy do we Know couincillors exist
I spend my spare time talking to people I want to talk too and don't think this extended arm of the jehovahs witnesses is a valuable intrusion”

“I think it's a good idea for the police to increase their community engagement - particularly with in rural areas like Cowling which are all too easily forgotten by public services. However I am totally unconvinced of the value in Parish Councillors - mostly unelected, dealing with peripheral issues and with little or no influence on the District and County Councils who provide the majority of services we depend on. Do we really need to be paying for 3 tiers of local government? I have been unimpressed by the Parish & County Councillor's inability to influence local issues, take Ridge Mill Bridge for example - 17 months after it's demise we are now told it will be at least 2010 before it is replaced. Possibly before it is completed global warming will have raised the water level in the beck and we will need a ferry - not a bridge.”

“I know what a policeman looks like. I know where the police station is, thank you. If I need to talk to a policeman I know what to do. Could I suggest that said copper arm him/herself with a radar gun instead and, instead of fruitlessly talking on doorsteps collect a few boy racers and HGVs bombing through the village?

Parish councillor is a thankless task, but the Ridge Mill Bridge saga does ours no credit at all.”
