“I knew David most of my life. A hard working, honest and jovial man. He was always a pleasure to be with. The world has lost one of it's diamonds.”

“Cowling Cricket Club has lost a great friend and stalwart supporter, with the passing of our President David Hoyle. David has been associated with the Cricket Club for around seventy years and he has always been deeply involved in the welfare of the club. After the Second World War, David and a few others were instrumental in reviving the cricket club and laying sound foundations for the club and ground which we have today. As a trustee he was responsible for the building and financing of the new pavillion and changing rooms and the laying of a road down to the new facilities. He played cricket at Cowling for many years, batting and bowling slow right arm. For some years he was the Captain, and in his time as a player the club won both cup and league honours. When his playing days were over, he served on the Committee and guided the club forward using his contacts, experience and common sense. Over the years he helped raise a lot of money for the development of cricket in Cowling, the latest being selling the watercolour ( which he painted and gave to our club ) of cricket at Cowling and the sale of fifty prints. This contribution ensured that the new garage and scorebox was built in 2007. He supported the club keenly, rarely missing a home game. He always had time for a chat with players and spectators, offering words of wit and humour (and sometimes advice). David's contribution to the Cricket Club is immeasurable. He cannot be replaced, but we will always remember his support, his wise words at Committee meetings, his wit, and his deep love of cricket. All involved at the Cricket Club will miss him tremendously.”

“Margaret, Susan and Janet would like to thank all David's friends from Cowling and the surrounding area for their good wishes and thoughts following David's death. His funeral was one we, and he would be, proud of and was a fitting tribute to a true friend and step dad. We are expecting to see a fitting obituary in The Craven Herald in the coming weeks.”
