“1851 - Wm. Gott b. 1787 age 64. wife Ann 65. son James 21, Joseph 26 etc. living at Gill Bottom, Cowling - rope makers. There was also Gill Beck Mill close by - pls. try "History and Information" on this site - old maps, also a good article written by Alfred Teal in 1902 which gives lots of interesting information of this v. busy but only a small area many years ago. Look for Gill Beck Mill, Gill Beck Bridge, Thornsfield Farm, Shop Lane, etc. in our old photos gallery. In the old section of our Moonrakers (Cowling history) website you should find one of Alfred Teal's plays "The Tyrant of Gill Beck Mill" partly run by child labour. In 1851 my own ancestor John Binns 1810-1880 mill founder was living at Gill Top Farm/Starmire.”
