The Chinese Lanterns over Cowling were lovely - where did they come from? A good alternative to fireworks. Happy New Year to all!

Does anyone know some good hills locally suitable for sledging and maybe a bit of snowboarding? The rec isnt really steep enough or long enough for some proper snow fun.
Cheers,
Ben

A big thank you to all the volunteers at Dry Stone Cafe, great place, give it a visit. Should be a good place for old, middle and young people to mix and have a natter. Impromptu free acts, local crafts, conversation, good fare, well done.

Anyone else disappointed/disgusted with the lack of gritting in the village over the last few days? Considering the main route the village is on there seems to have been a distinct lack of snowploughs or gritters.

Having driven through Glusburn and crosshills and seen their christmas lights on the lamp posts i have to ask the question why have we not got any in Cowling???
Having read the news letter and seen that it's going to take ''years'' to replace the lamp posts, does that mean we go without untill they are all replaced??
We seem to be the forgotten little village that no one cares about except those who live there

That is just an excuse Tracy, it is more important to them when you pay your rates, and don`t ask me why, we are never forgoten when they take our money. That is just nonesense about needing new lamposts. If the councelors want something for their benefits, they do it.
happy Christmas to the once they care only :-)

At last Cowling finally managed to get in a game of football after a two month wait, when they travelled to play Brierfield celtic. It was well worth the wait, as they came away with a 3-0 victory against very useful opposition. The game started very evenly, half way through the first half Cowling started to get on top, playing great football. There passing was sharp and accurate and the movement was excellent. Just before halftime they scored the opening goal which their play deserved with a lightening quick break. Half time was reached with Cowling leading 1-0. The second half followed a similar pattern to the first with Cowling always the slightly faster, fitter side, playing the better football, which resulted in them scoring two more goals, to register a good 3-0 win. A fabulous all round team performance, which belied their two month break. Scorers were Josh Wood, Ellis Denton and Luke Barker. Man of the match with a brilliant attacking display was Josh Wood.

What a fantastic evening the christmas review was, The youth club excelled themselves with a flawless display of dancing,( Britians got talent next year i think!!!) the primary school for their beautiful singing, the ode's and the group singalong at the end was great too, even though my daughter dug me in the ribs and asked me not to sing so loud!!. Many thanks to everyone who put in so much hard work and effort, we had a great night out.

Money! And your chance to have a say in where your council tax goes!
The Parish Council increased precept by a lot last year, in order to fund a request concerning the village hall. We promised at the time that this year it would be reduced back to 'normal' and of course it will be. What is actually proposed is not merely matching the precept of two years ago, but reducing it by around £6,000 or 15% - but we need YOU to tell us what you would like to see.
Do you want to see that reduction, would you like to see more (for each £1,000 not spent you will be better off by around 33p/year) or would you prefer that £6,000 to go on things you'd like to see in the village?
We cannot increase by more than that £6,000 saved because of our promise.
It's your chance to tell us by voting, and by your comments.
Please vote on:
and have a hand in deciding where your money goes.

A big thank you to all local businesses and villagers who have supported Cowling's annual panto so far this year. Many thanks also go to Kirsten for putting the panto on the front of this month's newsletter! Tickets are selling fast, and if you're coming we look forward to seeing you all - tonight (Friday), tomorrow afternoon or tomorrow evening. If you've bought a ticket for tomorrow's matinee, the performance starts at 2.30 pm (as it says on the publicity) NOT 2 pm (as it says on your ticket)! But be sure to turn up early enough to get a good seat. A Merry Christmas and Happy New Year to all from Pinnacle Productions - and a big thank you once more for all your support, we really do appreciate it.

I would like to thank all those dog walkers who very carefully clean up the dog mess place it in a plastic bag tie it in a knot and then either ram it in a stonewall, throw it over a hedge, leave it on a path or on fold lane placing in a skip. AS a Dog owner I am amazed at how stupid some people are, why cant they just clean it and either place it in the dog bin or in the dustbin at home! On Tuesday evening my chocolate Lab picked up one such bag full of dog mess from the path and began to choke as she swallowed, I had to force my hand into her mouth and pull the bag from her. It was dark and I had no idea that the bag was full of Dog mess. I am pleased to say that my dog has made a full recovery but if I ever catch anyone putting dog mess anywhere other than the dustbin or dog bin I will be having words you morons!

Anyone see Panorama this week, particularly the wind turbine and the government paying for feeding the grid? How about it here? There's enough wind power and plenty of things in the village which could benifit.

I have informed the police and also the neighbourhood watch (who have also taken the necessary steps) about Jehovah's Witnesses visiting and gaining access into vulnerable old people's bungalows in Springwell Close last Tuesday morning - this is supposed to be a "No cold calling" area of the village. Next time it might be someone pretending to be a J.W.??

Does anyone know a reliable local domestic cleaner who would be willing to do about 3-4 hours a week, starting in the new year? Times and dates are flexible.

This again: What is the weekly cost to send one child (under 3 mile limit) to South Craven School - bus fares and dinner money please? And how is the 3 mile limit measured from Cowling to South Craven School (used to be "as the crow flies" when this issue first came out due to education cutbacks around 1977.)

Online gaming for children.

Parents who let their children user Habbo.co.uk - Be warned that children who think they can get FREE credits by phoning this number - 09069009100 will end up finding out that the bill payer will be charged £5.00 a minutes and the best bit is the Habbo user will not get any credits at all. It is a pure scam!

It has been a £50.00 lesson learned by my 11 year old this afternoon when he got home from school. He is not in trouble due to him not knowing, I am looking at it as a "life lesson"

So please point out to your child that nothing is really free but at a young age it is something that really does need to be pointed out.

I have heard from different people that Ridge Mill Bridge could be replaced by local volunteers for less than £5,000 Can't the council get permission from the land owners for this work to be carried out?

Please make sure your refuse bins are safely positioned in wilder weather. Never had a new car before - only 2 wks. old - next door's bin blew into it - resulting in £195 damages! Nothing like this ever happened to old car? (Thankfully all amicably sorted with neighbour!)
