Recently our District Councillor stated on this messageboard... "I have also handed in my resignation on craven district council on your behalf too so you now don’t need to bother me with council issues either. Now I am back to just being a normal everyday member of the public who can write what ever I choose about who ever I choose I wonder if I will get the same freedom of speech you have to voice my dislikes on here." ... yet he appears to be still acting as our District Councillor. He recently spoke and voted in favour of allowing our new shell of a village hall to be handed over by the devloper to the village in its current state with well over a quarter of a million pounds still needed to complete it. In fact he is in the Craven Herald and Keighley news telling us this. Does anyone know what is going on?

A bit sad, but in Deaths Section of Craven Herald this week there is a Peter Arthur Camplin Holme age 69 - was this that "certain gentleman" who used to live in Middleton, and did he get better in later life when he left Cowling I wonder?

There is currently a planning application that has been submitted to CDC with regards to Bannister Wood and the siting of ten static caravans..... Here is the planning number at craven: App No. 22/2009/10049 - Bannister Wood Access via: www.planning.cravendc.gov.uk/fastweb i would be very interested to know people's thoughts on this? My concerns are access, waste, noise, traffic and most of.....destruction of at least 27 trees! Woodlands need managing and there is an obvious cost.We dont have enough trees around this village anyway....the report conveniently states there are a number of trees in disrepair, but this is development in a wood...All be it a small wood, but not good for me. As a member of CPRE (Campaign to Protect Rural England) I feel that we should save our woodlands at all costs but I also understand that tourism can help maintain an infrastructure and sustain communities in our villages. Never really thought of Cowling as a tourist hotspot but why not? Have a look at the application and make your own mind up!

Does anyone think the large metal framed roundabout on the rec is dangerous, or am i just being overly anxious? I have a 5yr old & 2 yr old and just today the 2 yr old ran to go under the roundabout at which point the frame almost caught his head where the bolts are. The ground underneath is on a gradient yet the roundabout is level so it is closer to the floor on one side than the other. If anyone agrees and knows who i should speak to please let me know. Thanks Martin

My question is this, Someone posted something on here and Mark revealed the identity, that person turned out to by my brother so he was named on this site, I would expect this site to have the same rules for everyone and not single individuals out as they choose. Lots of remarks are made about people that are sometimes out of order and sometimes not fair so why don't you do yourself justice and have either one rule for all or none at all.

I would really like to hear your thoughts, good or bad, on a possible business idea for the local area. I am hoping to open an old fashioned sweet shop selling all the old favourite weigh outs as well as a small section of old fashioned games/toys and gifts. The shop will be a real trip down memory lane taking 'some of us' back to our childhoods. I would especially love to hear any memories of similar shops in the local area from times gone by. Thank you

Just in case you were all wondering where the post has gone with the gala programme details, which was kindly posted by Joan, we have been asked by Jo the gala secretary to remove it as it may affect sales of the actual programmes. You can buy programmes, as well as raffle tickets, from Drystone Cafe, Cowling Chippy or the Bay Horse.

Just a reminder from all at Pinnacle Productions that our (now annual) Family Quiz takes places this Friday (16th July) upstairs at the Village Hall, from 6.30pm. Questions for all the family and round prizes. Please bring along your own refreshments. We had a great turnout last year so hopefully we can do the same this time round. All are welcome, if you're on your own we can always put you with another team, so do come along.

Hundreds of years ago some of my ancestors lived in a house called Revel Knoll at Knoll Hill. My late father commissioned an oil painting of the house more than 20 years ago and I have it now. The artist has signed the painting "Chandos" and although I have tried to discover the artist's identity I have not yet succeeded. I've had an email from a lady who has seen the copy of the painting on my Emmott Family website and she tells me she also has a painting by Chandos and asks me if I can give her any more information. I cannot but I wonder if somebody out there in the Cowling community can shed some light and solve this mystery. I hope so !! Barry Emmott

A notice has appeared on a gate leading to field with public footpath going through it near me ; "Cows, calves, and bulls". I'm not too bothered about cattle myself, dogs are more of a problem, but anyway I wonder what exactly does this notice mean??? Is it a/ Farmer saying it's dangerous to go in. b/ Farmer saying go through but be ready to run for it! c/ Farmer just covering himself because of some insurance thing. Which?? What about the legality of putting dangerous animal on public footpath?
