Robert Wilson
Beacon Man Memorial Stone On Pinhaw Moor

Photographs Supplied By: Ray Thornton

Although this is not really a Cowling related item it is something for over 10 years I have always been interested in due to an interesting story that Ray Thornton a local walker told me of a memorial stone on Pinhaw Moor showing the place were beacon man Robert Wilson was found dead in 1805.

Well a big thank you to Ray for taking the time out to re-visit the stone and this time he had his digital camera with him and emailed me the photographs below.

The stone reads.

Hear was found dead the
body of Robert Wilson one
of The Beacon Gards who
Died Jan 29 1809 Aged
59 years
