About Cowling Playgroup,
Pre-School and Breakfast Club
We are a non-profit making,
voluntarily managed, community
group which has been established
for over 30 years.
Our aim is to offer good
quality, affordable childcare
within the village, and to
provide a secure base for our
children to become happy,
confident individuals with an
understanding of social skills
within a group environment. The
group offers an invaluable
opportunity for children to
socialise with their peers,
start to develop independence,
and most of all to develop to
their full potential by having
fun whilst learning through
play. We do this by providing a
wide range of resources,
activities and learning
experiences.
We are a member of the
Pre-School Learning Alliance and
are registered with OFSTED,
being inspected regularly. We
provide childcare and pre-school
education, including Breakfast
Club which was established in
September 2006 to offer families
greater flexibility and
continuity of care. We are
registered as providers of
nursery education eligible to
receive Early Education funding
and as such our sessions are
planned according to the
Foundation Stage Curriculum and
Birth to Three Matters, in order
to support the Early Learning
Goals and Stepping Stones.
We have good links with Cowling
Primary School with visits from
Mrs Bailes (Reception and Year 1
class teacher) and a curriculum
tailored to prepare children for
their entry to school. We are an
important point of contact and
information for parents and
carers both socially and by
being a source of information on
health, education, benefit and
employment opportunities. This
can be a vital facility when
living in a rural area such as
Cowling with very little
accessible public transport.
We welcome new families and
encourage parents/carers to help
us maintain good links with our
local community via fundraising
events and involvement in wider
community events such as Cowling
Gala. Parents are encouraged to
join the committee or be
involved in any aspect of
playgroup life. Most of all we
encourage parents/carers to
enjoy the learning experiences
of the children attending our
playgroup in the few years in
which their children noticeably
develop to such a great degree.
Parental involvement is greatly
valued and necessary for the
continuing growth and
development of the group.
Our sessions are planned and run
by three Playleaders qualified
to NVQ level 3, one of whom is
currently studying for a degree
in early years, and an Assistant
Playleader who is about to
complete NVQ level 2.
