About Yogacharya B.K.S. Iyengar.
Yogacharya B.K.S. Iyengar was born on December 14 1918
in a village near in Karnataka, India. He was initiated
into yoga by T Krisnamacharya and started teaching in
Pune in 1936. He was introduced to the west in 1954 by
the violinist Yehudi Menuhin and, with the publication
of his book "Light on Yoga" in 1966, has been
instrumental in promoting yoga world-wide.
His style of teaching has become so popular that it is
commonly referred to as Iyengar Yoga, although he has
referred to it as Patanjali Yoga. Yogacharya B.K.S.
Iyengar is one of the world's foremost exponents of
yoga, having devoted his lifetime to its practise and
study. He and his family live their lives according to
the vedic philosophical precepts of yoga and the
teaching of Patanjali. At over 80 years of age,
Yogacharya Iyengar continues to inspire students all
over the world.
